What is Maryland’s Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program?

The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) is a recovery program for those suffering from mental illnesses that prevent them from improving their quality of life and connection to their community.

These programs are offered throughout Maryland and regulated by the state’s Department of Health through COMAR 10.63.01.05. Through evidence-based methods and direct support, the goal of the program is to improve your quality of life, reduce dependency on intervention services and feel better within your community.

Often times this service is utilized by individuals who need help reintegrating into their family or community after a lengthly hospitalization stay. Adjusting to a new setting or new responsibilities can be tough, which is where these in-home services help remove stress from daily tasks and certain responsibilities through education and direct care.

Streamlined At-Home Recovery Plans

When you’re ready to start your self-care journey, you’ll follow a simple process that eases you into the program and provides some stability in your daily life.

  1. You’ll meet with our staff doctor to perform an assessment.
  2. Based on these results, we’ll assign the best treatment for your concern.
  3. Once approved, you’ll begin treatment with sessions and activities a week.
  4. As you show signs of improvement, you’ll reduce your weekly sessions over time.
  5. After you’ve shown serious signs of self-improvement and maintained your well-being, your meetings will be on an “as-needed” basis for the future.

Everyone has a different journey towards recovery and self-care. That’s why our process is flexible enough to meet your specific needs and provide the right care for your situation. This includes involving your family unit and community resources.

The goal of the program is to help you find the resources within yourself to improve your quality of life.
